Inclusion

"Inclusion is about every child feeling welcomed, valued and successful regardless of their background"

At Edgware, we ensure that all children are included. No child should be left behind.

Inclusion applies to children who are:

  • disadvantaged pupils (those eligible for the pupil premium)
  • pupils with SEND; this means pupils receiving special educational needs (SEN) support, and those with an education, health and care (EHC) plan
  • pupils who are known (or previously known) to children’s social care, such as children in need and looked-after children
  • pupils pupils facing other barriers to their learning and/or well-being, which may include pupils who share a protected characteristic

We have high expectations for all children and want every child to achieve, regardless of their starting point or background. We have embedded a culture which ensures that children achieve, belong and thrive both academically and socially.

We are relentless in our pursuit of excellence for every child.

What do we do?

  • We have designed a bespoke curriculum tailored to meet the needs of all children.
  • Quality First Teaching is a priority to meet the needs of all learners through high quality engagement and instruction.
  • We provide a graduated approach to learning through a plan, do, review, assess cycle.
  • We adapt learning so that all children can access it.
  • We hold weekly safeguarding meetings which include a focus on behaviour, challenges and any safeguarding concerns for children or families.
  • External support is sought from professionals, where needed, to help advise on the best approaches for each child and family.
  • We work in co-production with parents to support the child at home and in school.
  • We hold termly pupil progress meetings and conduct half-termly data analysis to forensically examine children's progress, needs, and performance. This informs targeted actions and identifies emerging or changing needs.
  • We systematically evaluate support strategies and modify them as needed to better support children's learning and well-being.
  • We provide evidence based interventions, where suitable, to ensure children have the chance to catch up if they are behind in any way.
  • We use Widgits and other resources to support learning for children who are EAL or SEND.
  • We regularly review provision and children's progress, to ensure that children are getting what they need.
  • Our pupil premium strategy is based on research and takes into account our families and context and is reviewed regularly to ensure outcomes are achieved.
  • We acknowledge and understand that all transitions can be unsettling so we work with children to help them transition from Nursery to Reception, Reception to Year One and Year 6 into Secondary school. We provide a 'getting to know you' curriculum at the beginning of each school year to help children settle into their new class.
  • For children new to school, we provide a buddy and ensure that, if English is not their first language, they have someone they can talk to who speaks their home language.
  • We provide rich opportunities and experiences for all children to help them develop socially and academically.
